Turning Regular Tile Boxes into Fun Toys with Tangram

New innovation from energia - building better future with regular tile boxes

Meet Budhdev and his family consisting of his wife and two children. His wife stays at home, doing odd jobs while taking care of the children. Budhdev’s children, however, do not go to school, as they have been moving home every six to eight months.

Living in a crowded corner of Delhi, Budhdev represents one among the 5 crore migrant labourers who form the base of India’s huge construction industry. In a developing country like ours, this industry contributes nine percent of India’s GDP and is a key contributor of employment.

Everyday is a mundane one for Budhdev’s family, his children play around the house with what is available. However one hot day in May, Budhdev brought back something from work that brought whoops of joy and smiles from his children.

A Cause That Is Close to Us

At Orientbell Tiles, we are constantly looking for ways to give back to society, and the construction industry is the closest to us. Children of construction workers often face several challenges, including lack of access to education, healthcare, and basic amenities. Many of them are forced to drop out of school and work to support their families, and they also face social exclusion and discrimination. On this May Day 2023, we launched our CSR initiative that would bring us one step closer to educating children of construction workers.

Cardboard Turns Into Educational Toys

Orientbell Tiles has introduced Tangrams on our 2×2 GVT tile boxes that can be used by anyone who unwraps these boxes. Tangrams are the simplest form of puzzles that can not only be a fun game but at the same time contribute to the skill-building of children. Doing Tangrams has been shown to build creativity, problem solving skills and focus in children (and adults).

At construction sites such as Budhdev’s, workers get to take home these boxes for their children. And as he wound up his work day, Budhdev’s supervisor showed him how the tile boxes transformed into magical educational toys for his children. At no cost, Budhdev could take back the cardboard boxes home to his children. The hours spent solving the puzzles brought much joy to the family. This was the start to building their future.

Remember, when you buy an Orientbell Tiles’ 600X600mm GVT tiles, you are bringing home joy to a child!
